A Second War B.E.M. awarded to Corporal C. F. Westwick, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve

British Empire Medal, (Military) G.VI.R., 1st issue (1156053 Cpl. Cyril F. Westwick. R.A.F.V.R.) mounted on investiture brooch, good very fine £240-280

B.E.M. London Gazette 14 June 1945, the recommendation states:

‘This N.C.O. joined the Squadron [111 Squadron] in July, 1940 and served with it through the Battle of Britain. He has been in charge of the Orderly Room, and as the Squadron had three adjutants during the six weeks previous to departure overseas, he was responsible for most of the organisation in connection with the move. Again in Malta, owing to the absence of the Squadron Adjutant through sickness, a large proportion of the preparations of the Squadron for the invasion of Sicily fell upon him and the smooth functioning of the subsequent move was largely due to his untiring efforts. His outstanding efficiency and devotion to duty have contributed materially to the Squadron administration.’

M.I.D.
London Gazette 8 June 1944.

Cyril Frederick Westwick served with 111 Squadron from the Battle of Britain in July 1940, through to the invasion of Sicily in August 1943. The Squadron initially flew Hurricanes prior to it’s conversion to Spitfires.
