A Great War ‘Gallipoli’ D.C.M. pair awarded to Acting Corporal A. Griffin, 1st and 6th Battalions, Lincolnshire Regiment, who died of wounds in October 1916

D.C.M. London Gazette 15 March 1916:

‘For conspicuous gallantry at Suvla, Gallipoli Peninsula, on 3rd December, 1915, when he went out, unarmed and unattended, some 60 yards in front of our trenches, and brought in one after the other the bodies of an officer and a Sergeant. He had twice been driven back by the enemy’s sniping fire.’

Ambrose Griffin served with the 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, in France from 25 August 1914. He proceeded to Gallipoli with the 6th Battalion, returning to France after the evacuation, and died of wounds on 21 October 1916. He was aged 30, the son of William and Elizabeth Griffin, of King’s Lynn, Norfolk, and is buried in Warloy-Baillon Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
