Frederick John Boyle was appointed Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Oxfordshire Light Infantry on 4 August 1900, and served in West Africa in 1900, attached to the West African Regiment in the operations in Ashanti. He served in France with the Army Service Corps from 16 October 1916.
