William Horace Hewlett ‘was born in London in 1880 and joined the British South Africa Police in 1901, serving throughout the Boer War. In 1917 he was made a Justice of the peace for the district of Bulawayo and for the Colony in 1924. He retired from the police in 1928, and took over Victoria Park Farm, where he started an auctioneering and estate-agency business, which he directed until the months preceding his death.’ (Recipient’s obituary notice refers). He died in July 1948.
