Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, N. Nigeria 1904 (Lieut. H. C. Nisbet. Oxford L.I.) nearly extremely fine and rare £600-800

Herbert Chaplin Nisbet was born on 10 October 1875. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant (from Militia), Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, 4 May 1898; Lieutenant, 9 October 1899; Captain, 23 January 1905; retired, 7 May 1913. Nisbet was posted to the 52nd in India on joining and after a few years of regimental soldiering was employed with the West African Frontier Force 1902-04: served West Africa (N. Nigeria) 1903; operations against the Yundam and Zuma tribes, in command; operations against the ex-Emir of Yola, in command (Medal with clasp). In 1909 he became an Adjutant T.F. In World War 1 he was recalled and held a number of staff appointments, including D.A.Q.M.G. 53 Div. Dardanelles; D.A.Q.M.G. 4th Mounted Div; 2nd Cyclist Dic.; Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel, Machine Gun Corps, 21 September 1916; Special Appt., Machine Guns H.Q. 1917. On 31 March 1918, he was employed under the Ministry of Pensions until demobilisation with rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Also entitled to 1914-15 Star trio.
