Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Lieut Michl., Curry. H.Ms. 81st Regt.) fitted with silver ribbon buckle, suspension claw re-fixed, otherwise very fine £260-300

Michael Curry was appointed Ensign in the 81st Regiment on 2 February 1858, and promoted Lieutenant on 26 July 1864. He served in the Mutiny in India in 1857-58 and was present when the 81st Regiment under Colonel Renny disarmed at Mean Meer one Regiment of Native Cavalry and three Regiments of Native Infantry, all disaffected and ripe for mutiny.

Note: Lieutenant Curry is one of seven officers of the 81st listed in Hart’s Army List of 1867 for like services for the Indian Mutiny, only one of whom (Major R. B. Chichester) is shown in Asplin’s roll as entitled to a medal. It is probable that these were the subject of a later claim for a medal.
