Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal (27535 Tpr: F. Gough. 77th. Coy. Imp: Yeo:) toned, good very fine £80-120

Fred Gough was born in Ardwick, Manchester, and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry on 21 February 1901. He served with the 77th (Manchester) Company, 8th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 21 March 1901, and was taken ill with enteric fever in March 1902. Evacuated on the Hospital Ship S.S. Nubia in June of that year, he spent a month at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, before being discharged on 7 July 1902.
