Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866 (823 Pte. B. Emmett, 47th Foot) officially impressed naming, nearly extremely fine £280-320

Benjamin Emmett was born at Spotland, Rochdale, Lancashire, in 1841 and attested for a period of ten years service in the 47th Foot at Rochdale on 17 December 1862, aged 21 years 11 months. He served in Canada from 3 September 1864 to 8 January 1869, taking part in the suppression of the Fenian uprising in May and June 1866. After service in Canada, he went with his regiment to the West Indies and whilst stationed at Bridgetown, Barbados, he re-engaged to complete twenty-one years service on 18 August 1869. He transferred to the 72nd Highlanders on 14 July 1870, and served with them in the East Indies, 1871-82, and in Egypt in 1882. He returned Home on 2 November 1882, where he remained until discharged from the army at Parkhurst on 8 January 1884. For his services with the 72nd Highlanders, Emmett received the Afghanistan medal with clasps for Charasia, Kabul and Kandahar, the Kabul to Kandahar Star 1880, the Egypt medal for Tel-el-Kebir, and the Khedive's Star.
