Phileas Mallette was born in Ottawa, Canada, in August 1882. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in March 1915, and arrived in the UK in June 1916. Mallette was posted to the 38th Canadian Infantry, and served with them in the French theatre of war from August 1916. He was wounded in April 1917, and discharged 16 June 1919.
