A Second World War ‘withdrawal from Dunkirk’ D.S.M. awarded to Signalman Joseph Mulheron, Royal Navy, for conspicuous devotion to duty under fire whilst serving ashore on the coast and in Dunkirk

Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R. (JX. 133241 J. Mulheron. Sig. R.N.) impressed naming, edge bruise and contact marks, otherwise very fine £1200-1400

D.S.M. London Gazette 16 August 1940: ‘For good services in the withdrawal of the Allied Armies from the beaches at Dunkirk.’

The recommendation states: ‘The ratings employed ashore on the coast, and in Dunkirk were subjected to a considerable ordeal. The following [21 names] are selected from the large number employed, for conspicuous devotion to duty under fire.’ Signalman Mulheron is listed at No. 2 in the order of merit.
