Provenance: Christie’s, November 1983.

D.C.M. ordered 30 November 1855. Awarded for Final attack on the Redan, 8 September 1855. One of only 3 awards to the 62nd Regiment for the Crimea.

The 62nd lost 16 officers and 283 men in a few minutes as a result of their Brigadier’s premature attack at the battle of Ferozeshuhur. In the Final attack on the Redan, 8 September 1855, the 62nd lost half of their officers and sergeants and 100 men. The regiment was highly commended for its courage in the assault, and 25 of all ranks were mentioned in despatches for bravery, more than in any other regiment taking part in the attack.
