The Henry Street Warehouse Co Ltd
, Dublin, a large copper printing plate for share certificates, 43 x 18cm, late 19th century; together with original wrapper, unissued certificate and file of copied research [Lot]. Plate in good condition, wrapper and certificate damaged £100-150

The Henry Street Warehouse Co was originally registered in Dublin in 1878 as Hazelton Connor & Co Ltd, changing to the Henry Street Warehouse Co Ltd in 1882. The company went into voluntary liquidation in January 1934, when its assets were sold to Roches Stores Ltd. The company’s principal premises, a large department store at 59-62 Henry Street, a few hundred yards from the GPO in Dublin, was a central feature of Dublin life during the late 19th and early 20th century. During the 1916 Rising the premises were occupied by a party of rebel snipers, directed there by the military commander James Connolly. The warehouse, although looted and slightly damaged during the Rising, was one of the few buildings in Henry Street still standing when the rebels surrendered on on 29 April 1916.
