Samuel Smeardon Alford was born on 15 January 1867 and attested for the South African Constabulary on 3 June 1901. He served during the Boer War before being discharged on 19 August 1902, after 1 year and 78 days’ service. Also entitled to South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 clasps.
