Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, 2 clasps, The Atbara, Khartoum (No. 5129 Private F. Mc.Kay. 1st. Seaforth Highrs.) contemporarily engraved naming, very fine £120-160

Findlay McKay (also spelt MacKay) was born in Dingwall, Ross-shire, in 1875 and attested for the Seaforth Highlanders there on 17 December 1894. He served with the Regiment in Egypt and the Sudan from 5 January 1898 until 20 January 1901 (also entitled to the Queen’s Sudan Medal), and in South Africa during the Boer War from 21 January 1901 until 13 December 1902 (also entitled to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, and South Africa 1902). He transferred to the Army Reserve on 17 December 1902, and was discharged on 16 December 1906, after 12 years’ service.
