December 1895.); Lloyd’s Medal for Saving Life at Sea, 1st large type bronze medallion, 73mm (R. C. Phillipps, “Indian Chief” 22nd. Roland C. Phillipps was one of six men from the steamship Batanga of Glasgow who was awarded both the Board of Trade’s Silver Medal for Gallantry and the Lloyd’s Bronze Medal for saving life at sea for rescuing the crew of the barquentine Indian Chief, of Banff, which foundered in the English Channel on the night of the 22-23 December 1895. He was presented with his Board of Trade Medal, together with a gratuity of £2, at Liverpool.
