Provenance: Spink, March 1975.

James Kennedy was born in County Cavan, Ireland, and attested for the 97th Foot at Athlone, in October 1807. He served with the Regiment during the Peninsula War, and advanced to Corporal in April 1817, and Sergeant in March 1818. He was discharged as Staff Sergeant in February 1840, aged 51 and having served 16 years and 91 days with the Colours.
