Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Trafalgar (Wm. Sheppard.) edge bruises and light contact marks, otherwise good very fine £5000-6000

William Sheppard/Shepperd is confirmed as a Marine aboard H.M.S. Victory at Trafalgar. Two other men of this name received medals, one for Algiers (sold Glendining’s, September 1948) and one for Syria.

William Sheppard was born in the Parish of Weston, Hertfordshire. He enlisted on 2 March 1801, aged 16 years, and was posted to 47th Company in the Portsmouth Division, Royal Marines. He was taken on strength of H.M.S.
Victory on 5 August 1803 and was discharged from that ship and sent to Headquarters on 15 January 1806.
