4th West York Militia Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1878-81, the rounded peak skull complete with all plated fittings, the frontal plate of crowned eight pointed star pattern with laurel overlays, on the circle ‘4th West York Militia’ enclosing a crowned rose on a ground of faded brown velvet, buff leather sweat band with crimson silk lining, the plate not original to the helmet, the silk lining mainly detached from the sweat band, the back spine fractured and two deposits of melted black patent leather on the rear panel, some loss to the leather trim on the back peak otherwise in sound condition
