8th Union Volunteer Regiment (Irish Rifles) NSW Hat Badge 1899-1903, a fine quality die stamped brass example featuring a QVC, proteus plant wreath ‘8’ over a shamrock over a Gaelic scroll, complete with both loop fasteners, very good condition £100-160

Note: This unit was formed from the Irish Companies of the 5th Union Volunteers New South Wales Infantry Regiment formed in 1896. In 1903 they were redesignated The New South Wales Irish Rifle Regiment (Volunteers) and in 1908 the 1st Battalion New South Wales Irish Rifle Regiment.
