William Grant was born in the Parish of Bloomsbury, Middlesex, and enlisted at Westminster on 5 March 1858, aged 18 years 1 month, a piper by trade. He served with the 93rd (Sutherland) Highlanders in the Eusufzye Expedition from 25 November 1863 to 31 January 1864, and took part in the defence of the camp in the Umbeyla Pass on 16 December 1863. He was granted the medal for long service on 1 July 1876, with a Gratuity of £5, and was discharged at Aberdeen on 27 May 1879, intending to reside in that city. Sold with copied discharge papers and other research.
