Robert Leslie Allen was a Corporal when promoted to Pilot Officer, Secretarial Branch on a short service commission on 4 November 1948. He was promoted Flying Officer on 4 November 1950; Flight Lieutenant on 4 November 1954; Squadron Leader on 1 January 1961; and Wing Commander on 1 July 1966. He retired on 5 March 1971, on account of ‘medical unfitness for RAF service’. He is believed to be one of the Founders of the ‘Elizabethan Lodge’, Christchurch, in 1953.
