Arthur Tapner was born in 1896, the younger son of Mr. Thomas Tapner, of Birdham, Chichester, Sussex, and served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment during the Great War. He died of wounds received on the Western Front on 21 October 1918, before learning of the award of his Military Medal, and is buried in Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy, France.

Charles Tapner was born in 1892, the elder son of Mr. Thomas Tapner, of Birdham, Chichester, Sussex, and served with the 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment during the Great War. He was killed in action during the Zwarteleen action on the Western Front on 17 February 1915, and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
