The South Wales Borderers 5th Volunteer Battalion Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1900-02, the skull complete with all silver plated fittings, the very fine frontal plate of crowned star pattern with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre in gilt on a ground of black velvet a Welsh Dragon within laurel sprays, double gilt metal scroll below ‘The South Wales Borderers 5th Volunteer Battalion’, the plate is original to the helmet, buff leather sweatband with red silk lining, moth damage to the inner linings of both peaks and some damage to the leather trim on the rear peak otherwise in very fine condition £600-800
