3rd Royal Surrey Militia Officer’s 1855 Pattern Shako, a good quality example, the black beaver body with sunken patent leather top, peaks and bottom bracing band, the frontal plate of crowned star pattern with circular mount ‘Third Royal Surrey Militia’ in silver plate, in the centre on a domed gilt ground the ‘VR’ cypher in silver, the plate not original to the shako, buff leather sweatband with crimson silk lining (partly detached), white over red wool ball plume with 1861 pattern plated plume holder, the leather chin strap missing otherwise very good condition, together with its correct pattern japanned metal carrying tin (2) £500-600
