Memorial Plaque (George Marshall Hindle) in original card envelope and outer postage envelope, addressed to ‘Mrs. Hindle, 9, Godly St., Burnley’, extremely fine £80-120

George Marshall Hindle was born in Burnley, Lancashire, and attested there for the East Lancashire Regiment. He served with ‘A’ Company, 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on the Somme on 23 October 1916, on which date the battalion was involved in an attack on Mild Trench, with ‘A’ and ‘D’ Companies carrying and holding the objective. Total casualties for the attack were 194. Hindle has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Sold together with Buckingham Palace enclosure.
