Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 1 clasp, Tamaai (W. Mortimore, Pte. R.M. H.M.S. Briton.) pitted from Star, nearly very fine, scarce £240-280

Approximately 36 ‘Tamaai’ clasps to H.M.S.
Briton and rarer still as a single clasp.

William Mortimore was born in North Bovey, Mortenhampstead, Devon, in November 1853. He joined the Marines after being a labourer in civilian life, on 30 May 1872 at Walmer, and was drafted into Number 43 Company. He subsequently served in H.M. ships Triumph (1874-77), Impregnable (1878-80), Briton (1881-84), Defiance (1890-91), Ganges (1892-93), and was finally discharged after completion of 21 years service on 2 June 1893.
