Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Relief of Lucknow, Lucknow (Jas. Sanderson, 93rd Highlanders) contact marks,otherwise nearly very fine £400-460

James Sanderson was born in the parish of Bridgeton, Glasgow, and attested for the 79th Regiment at Glasgow on 5 July 1852, aged 18 years, a dyer by trade. He served with the 79th in the Crimea, including the siege of Sebastopol (Medal with clasp and Turkish Medal). He transferred to the 93rd Highlanders in March 1857, and took part in the relief of Lucknow and in the subsequent capture of Lucknow. He was wounded in the attack on the Moti Mahal Palace at Luknow on 17 November 1857 (Medal with two clasps). Sanderson afterwards took part in the operations on the north-west frontier at Umbeyla (Medal with clasp). Twice tried by Court Martial, he was discharged at Aldershot on 6 March 1874. Sold with copied discharge papers.
