New Zealand 1845-66, reverse undated (2340. Robt. Malyon. 40th Foot.) nearly extremely fine £300-400

Robert Malyon was born in the Parish of Dunston, near Romford, Essex, and attested for the 40th Foot at Chelmsford, Essex, on 15 December 1845. He served 6 years 6 months in the Australian Colonies, and 6 years 6 months in the East Indies. During their service in Australia in 1854 the 40th were part of the force that stormed the Eureka Stockade during the disturbances in the Ballarat Gold Fields. The regiment embarked for New Zealand in 1860 and returned to England in 1866. He was discharged on 9 March 1869.
