Albert Ernest Johnson was born in Naas, Co. Kildare, in 1875, and attested there for the Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 9 March 1893. He served with the Regiment in South Africa from 18 May 1897 until 11 February 1902 (also entitled to a King’s South Africa Medal), and was wounded at Harts Hill on 24 February 1900. He subsequently served in India, Egypt, and the Sudan, and was discharged on 22 March 1914, after 21 years and 14 days’ service.
