Helen G. Shaw was called up as a Staff Nurse with the Territorial Force Nursing Service on 17 August 1914, and was sent to France on 24 July 1915. She served in Hospital Ship Mauritania from 23 November 1915, and was promoted Sister on 1 January 1916. She further served in France from 28 February 1916 until 21 August 1917, seeing out the remainder of the War in London. She was demobilized on 26 May 1919.
