Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp (934 Hospl. Sergt. H. Spackman. 8th Hussrs.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (80. Cr. Sgt. H. Spackman, C & T. C.); Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (Bk: Warden H. Spackman. A.S.C.) the first two with edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine, the last nearly extremely fine (3) £400-460

M.S.M. awarded 1922 with Annuity £20. Recommended by O.C. 8th Hussars on 18 February 1905.

Harry Spackman was born on 11 March 1843, and enlisted at Aldershot on 9 November 1865, aged 22 years 6 months, a warehouseman by trade. He served in the 8th Hussars for 18 years 11 months, in the Army Service Corps for 11 years 5 months, and as Barrack Warden 8 years 3 months. He has 12 entries on his Troop Defaulters sheet mostly ‘for absence and neglect of duty.’
