Francis Minchin was commissioned Ensign in the 51st Regiment of Foot on 10 October 1807, having previously served in the Sussex Militia, and was promoted Lieutenant on 15 October 1809, and Captain on 22 June 1815. He served on the Regimental staff during the Waterloo Campaign, 16-18 June 1815.
