Five: Master at Arms G. Budgen, Royal Navy

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, no clasp (G. Budgeon [sic], A.B., H.M.S. Forte.) minor edge bruising; 1914-15 Star (189226, G. Budgen,.....) partially erased; British War and Victory Medals (189226 G. Budgen. M.A.A. R.N.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (189226. George Budgen. M.A.A. H.M.T.E. Shotley.) nearly very fine or better (5) £140-180

George Budgen was born in Fulham, London, and joined the Royal Navy as Boy 2nd Class in June 1896. He advanced to Able Seaman in January 1899, and served with H.M.S. Forte during the Second Boer War. Budgen advanced to Master at Arms in 1916, and served at various Shore and Training Establishments (including Shotley) during the Great War, and also with H.M. Ships Lancaster, September 1913 - July 1915, and Forward, November 1917 - July 1918 (he was awarded the L.S. & G.C. 14 February 1917). He was ‘Shore Pensioned’, 8 May 1920.
