James Todd was born in Southampton, in 1865, and attested for the Royal Marine Artillery at London, in January 1886. His service included with H.M.S. Monarch, November 1899 - December 1902, including ashore during the Second Boer War, 28 November 1899 - 24 April 1900. He served with the R.M.A. at Ostend 27-31 August 1914 (entitled to 1914 Star and clasp trio), and was employed by H.M. Office of Works (L.S. & G.C.).
