George Willcox was born in North Tawton, Devon, in 1870, and attested for the Coldstream Guards on 26 April 1889, having previously served with the 4th Volunteer Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 22 April 1896, and was recalled to the Colours for service in South Africa on 7 October 1899. He served with the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards during the Boer War from 3 January 1900 to 2 April 1902, and was discharged on 21 April 1902. In civilian life he was employed as a market porter, and died in Deepway, Exminster, on 10 June 1955.
