Albert Barlow, alias John Thomas Shepherd
was born at Bradford, Manchester, and was attested at Bury on 12 December 1893, aged 18 years. He was taken prisoner by the Boers at Spion Kop on 24 January 1900, and after release at Pretoria in June 1900, served further, probably with the 14th Mounted Infantry. Entitled to Q.S.A. with clasps Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, and Transvaal. He was discharged at Preston on 11 December 1909.
