Pair: Colour Sergeant W. George, Border Regiment, late Royal Irish Rifles

India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Waziristan 1894-95 (... Sgt. W. George 2d Bn: Border ...); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (992 C. Sjt. W. George. Border Regt.) number and ‘Regt’ rubbed away on first, polished, contact marks, fair to fine (2) £140-180

William George was born in 1866 in Newtownards, Co. Down, and attested for the Border Regiment at Carlisle in 1885, having previously served with the 3rd (Militia) Battalion Royal Irish Rifles. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, was promoted Corporal in 1888, and Sergeant in May 1893. In 1895 following his service in Waziristan, he was awarded his certificate on qualification as Sergeant Instructor of Musketry. Promoted Colour Sergeant in 1902, he was awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal with gratuity in 1907, and was finally discharged in March 1908 from 3rd Battalion, Border Regiment, after 23 years’ service, at home, Malta, the East Indies and Waziristan. He died in Carlisle in 1935.

Sold together with the recipient’s original vellum Discharge Certificate, dated 1908.
