M.B.E. London Gazette 11 October 1945:
‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in north-west Europe.’

The recommendation states: ‘This Officer has served as Brigade Major for over 2 years, the last 8 months being in this theatre. He has shown the greatest enthusiasm and initiative throughout. His excellent staff work has largely contributed to the successful operations of the units under his command. During the period 1 February to 30 April in particular he has been responsible for carrying out detailed staff work for organising the coast artillery and anti-aircraft cover over the vital approaches to the Scheldt Estuary. The failure of the enemy’s many attempts to break through the defences is a tribute to this Officer’s excellent staff work on co-ordinating the defence arrangements. He is always cheerful and his untiring devotion to duty is an example to all ranks.’

Edward Hugh Boucharde Greenfield was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Regiment of Artillery on 19 October 1940, and served with the Artillery during the Second World War. Promoted Captain and temporary Major, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his services in north-west Europe, and was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 10 May 1945). He was awarded his Efficiency Medal on 29 May 1964.
