General Service 1962-2007, 1 clasp, South Arabia (23875531 Tpr. R. J. Murphy. 10 H.) in named card box of issue, with named condolence slip, number partially officially corrected, nearly extremely fine £70-90

The following is taken from The X Royal Hussars Gazette, Spring 1967 issue:

‘Trooper R. J. Murphy. It is with regret we announce the accidental death of Tpr. Raymond John Murphy whilst on exercise with ‘B’ & ‘C’ Squadrons at Baumholder (American Zone) on the 25th May 1966.

John, a 22 years serviceman had served a period of five years with the Regiment, apart from an 18 month posting at H.Q. 1 Div. Signal Regiment. Whilst with the regiment he worked in the Sergeants Mess and for the last twelve months before his death served with Support Troop.

He was a very quiet and yet cheerful chap who had many friends with the regiment, he will be dearly missed.

He was buried with full military honours at the British Military Cemetery, Hanover, on 2nd June, 1966, both Bearer and Firing Parties being provided by the Regiment, with his uncle and Support Troop in attendance.’
