Korea 1950-53, 1st issue (19047035 Fus. D. Broadhead. R.N.F.) ‘E’ in surname double-struck, minor edge bruise, very fine £600-800

Donald Broadhead was born in Stocksbridge, South Yorkshire, on 21 June 1927, and attested for the York and Lancaster Regiment at Sheffield on 23 June 1947, having previously served as a cadet. Posted to the 1st Battalion, he served with the B.A.O.R. from 10 December 1947, before being posted to the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers on 9 February 1951. He left for Korea on 15 March 1951, and was killed in action north of the Imjin River during the attack on Hill 217, during the first Battle of Maryang San, as part of ‘Operation Commando’, on 7 October 1951. He is buried in U.N. Memorial Cemetery, Pusan, Korea, and is additional memorialised on Bolsterstone War Memorial, South Yorkshire.
