Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, El-Teb (1110 Sergt. M. Palmer 10th Rl. Hussars.) pitted, therefore nearly very fine, scarce £600-700

Matthew Palmer was born in King’s Lynn, Norfolk and attested for the 10th Hussars at Westminster Police Court, in August 1870. He advanced to Corporal in December 1872, and to Troop Sergeant Major in July 1881. He served with the Regiment during the Second Afghan War 1878-80 (entitled medal with ‘Ali Musjid’ clasp), and in the Sudan, including at the battle of El-Teb, 29 February 1884, where he suffered a spear wound to the right shoulder. He was discharged 8 August 1891, having served 21 years with the Colours.
