South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (2195. Pte. J. Whitfield. 1-24th Foot) suspension claw tightened, edge bruising, otherwise very fine £550-650

James Whitfield was born in Pontefract, Yorkshire, and attested for the 32nd Foot at Leeds, in August 1860. He transferred to the 109th Foot in May 1863, and to the 25th Infantry Brigade in February 1879. He served with the 1st Battalion, 24th Foot in South Africa, before returning to the 109th Foot in April 1880. Re-designated the 2nd Battalion, Leinster Regiment he continued to serve until his final discharge 6 June 1882.
