Donald Sanderson Hindell was granted an emergency commission as Acting Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve on 19 December 1941, and was confirmed in that rank on 19 February 1942. He served during the Second World War with the Royal Air Force Regiment, and retired with the rank of Flight Lieutenant on 10 February 1954.
