Robert George Bonfield was the son of James and Ellen Bonfield and husband of Julia Lilian Bonfield, of 61 Westbourne Road, Barnsbury, London. He served during the Great War with the 12th (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (The Rangers). He was then transferred to the 73rd Protection Company, Royal Defence Corps as Private 44927. He died in service on 19 November 1918, aged 30 years and was buried in the Islington Cemetery.
