Pair: Lance-Corporal J. Roberts, Northumberland Fusiliers, killed in action at the Third Battle of Ypres, 14 October 1917

James Roberts was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and attested there for the Northumberland Fusiliers. He served during the Great War with the 11th Battalion, and was killed in action on the Western Front, during the Third Battle of Ypres, on 14 October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

Sold together with an attractive silver memorial brooch badge, made from a French coin, the obverse engraved ‘To Mr. and Mrs. Roberts in Loving Memory of Jim, France 1917, from J. Hewitson.’
