Provenance: Sotheby, March 1988.

John Owens initially served with ‘E’ Company, 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, during the Boer War. He was selected as a volunteer to be a member of the Worcestershire Mounted Infantry Company, and served with the 5th Mounted Infantry Battalion. Having returned to his parent regiment, he served with them during the Great War before transferring to the Labour Corps.
