Neil Macglashan was a Mining Commissioner at Manica in 1890. He commanded the Salisbury Volunteers prior to their amalgamation with the Salisbury Burgher Force to form the Salisbury Field Force in 1896. He served as a Major with the latter in connection with operations in the provinces of the Matabeleland and Mashonaland in 1896, and played a key role in the establishment of the Salisbury Laager.

He was appointed Mining Commissioner at Bulawayo in October 1897, and served as Officer Commanding of the Southern Rhodesian Volunteers during the Second Boer War.

Sold with rare Southern Rhodesian Volunteers Macglashan Cup bullion badge for shooting; and several photographic images including of recipient seated with the officers of the Salisbury Field Force in 1896.
