H. J. Bowell was severely wounded at Quaggafontein on 19 March 1902.

George Bowell was born in India and attested for the King’s Own Scottish Borderers at Lichfield, Staffordshire. He served with the 7th/8th Battalion during the Great War, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 23 July 1918, and is buried in Buzancy Military Cemetery, Aisne, France.
