A. H. Ashton was killed in action on 4 April 1906, whilst serving with an escort of police, under Colonel Mansel. The escort was conveying women and children from Keat’s Drift to Greytown when they were attacked on the Impanza Road, leading to four Europeans killed and four wounded.
