John Crisp was born in South Cave, Yorkshire, and attested for the 75th Foot at York, in December 1857. He transferred to the 54th Foot in February 1862, and to the 19th Foot in October 1865. He subsequently served in the 55th Foot, and was discharged 4 March 1879, having served 21 years and 67 days.
